Case Study #5:  NEW BUSINESS INITIATIVES
Medical Informatics Opportunity

Scenario:

To identify, develop and launch new product and business opportunities. Mintz co-lead the development of a unique business endeavor aimed at addressing an unmet need in the healthcare market. Mintz identified a novel and promising solution to a widely recognized but unmet need. Mintz’s team faced the challenge of garnering Management support for this opportunity--an informatics business unit--for which the company had no internal resources and which was outside of its core mission and capabilities.

Action:

Mintz first researched the market and developed the concept for the product and service. Working with colleagues, he identified key drivers of the opportunity and developed specifications for the product. He identified potential strategic partners for development and manufacturing of the system, and solicited involvement from Alliance’s internal experts in areas essential to the initiative’s success (disease management, pharmaceutical marketing.) He then created a compelling business plan and presentation to senior executives and brought in outside experts who provided validation of the concept.

Results:

Mintz received many accolades from outside experts and much positive recognition from senior management. Mintz was given authority to allocate Alliance Pharmaceutical resources to a pilot project, which would fully demonstrate his idea with a fully functioning prototype.
