Scenario:
To aggressively move QLT's international partners forward on clinical trails, market feasibility studies, and due diligence in the Japanese market. The partnership was suffering as a result of ineffective communication channels, inefficient business practices and slow progress on key projects.
Action:
Mintz conducted interviews in English and Japanese of key figures in Japan, applied his comprehensive understanding of Asian business and cultural practices, and made pointed recommendations to QLT executives. His facilitation of new and refocused discussions among QLT executives and their Japanese counterparts created a path for resolving and improving a difficult situation.
Results:
The revitalized and refocused relationship that Mintz engineered produced immediate benefits to both parties: Management were freed to focus on other priorities, the partnership became more cost efficient, and sales increased 300% over 3 years. For his ability to express the Japanese partner’s challenges and create a common ground for collaboration, QLT’s Japanese partner expressed personal thanks to Mintz on many occasions. His ability to bridge the conceptual gap between the cultures was noted as invaluable to the success of the endeavor.
